Black Friday 2026 falls on November 27, eight days after Grand Theft Auto VI launched. For anyone buying into PlayStation this year, that timing is favourable in one specific way: console bundles including a major release are at their most common in this window, and if you need the hardware anyway, a bundle is frequently better value than buying the two separately.
Which model
| Model | Verdict | Reasoning |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 (standard, disc) | The default | Sony has confirmed new PlayStation games go digital-only from January 2028, but a disc drive still buys you the secondhand market and resale value for the rest of the current library — see buy before it's gone |
| PS5 Digital | Fine, with a caveat | Cheaper, but you give up used-game buying and resale entirely. That gap costs more than the saving over a console's lifetime for most buyers — the maths |
| PS5 Pro | Not for GTA 6 | The store lists GTA 6 as PS5 Pro Enhanced, but neither Sony nor Rockstar has said what that delivers, and the 26-minute gameplay reveal was captured on a base PS5. Buy a Pro for your whole library or not at all |
What actually discounts
Console hardware itself rarely moves much on Black Friday — margins are thin and demand is high in November. What moves is the package.
- Bundles. A console packaged with a recent major release is the most common form of real PlayStation value this week.
- Extra controllers. Reliably and often deeply discounted — see the controller guide.
- First-party accessories. Headsets, charging docks and the like discount more than the console does.
- Storage. The M.2 expansion market discounts hard in November, and this is the purchase most PS5 owners actually need — storage guide.
If you already own a PS5
Do not buy another console. Buy the two things that will actually change your next few months:
- Storage, if yours is tight. Grand Theft Auto VI is a very large install — Rockstar has not published an official figure, and we do not publish estimates — and it landed on a console you have probably been filling for years. See what to buy.
- A controller, if yours is drifting. Eighty hours of Grand Theft Auto will find any weakness in a stick. Repair, replace or Hall effect covers the decision.
The honest assessment
What works
- Bundles are the genuine PlayStation value of the week
- Controllers, storage and audio all discount reliably
- If you are buying into the platform this year, November is a reasonable time to do it
- GTA 6 makes a bundle purchase more attractive than usual
What doesn't
- The console itself rarely drops far — do not wait all year expecting a large cut
- A Pro purchase justified solely by an undefined 'Enhanced' label is a bad purchase
- Digital Edition savings are frequently outweighed by lost secondhand and resale value
- November stock on storage tightens during major launches
Cross-platform context is in which console should you buy for GTA 6 and PC or console in 2026.
